Cages for uncapping and extraction
These cages are extremely useful. They allow time to be saved during uncapping and extraction. They support the most fragile of comb and allow the uncapping and extraction of comb from fixed-comb hives, and even from the comb fragments from skeps.
These cages are essential for extracting fixed comb with an extractor.
A simple cage suffices. Double cages are always used in pairs.
Having a pair would allow a helper to uncap while the extractor is running.
Cage 1 (simple cage): metal sheeting fully tinned, gauge 5/10, size 260 x 365 mm. The sides, 20 mm wide, are bent after cutting the corners. There is no solder. Lugs are inserted on opposite sides by
making two cuts in the folded sides.
Cage 2: perforated metal sheet, gauge 5/10, size 275 x 380 mm. Holes of 3 mm at 3 mm centres; the sides 20 mm wide are folded after cutting the corners. There is no solder. Cage 3: perforated tinned metal sheet, gauge 5/10, size 290 x 395 mm. Holes of 3 mm at 3 mm centres; the sides 20 mm are bent after cutting the corners. There is no solder. Cages 2 and 3 constitute the double cage.
